Greater Noida West metro clears PIB stage: 7.5 km Aqua Line link, 5 new stations, Rs 1,500 crore

The long-awaited metro for Greater Noida West has moved a step closer. The proposed 7.5 km Aqua Line extension would run from Noida Sector 51 to Kisan Chowk (Greater Noida West Sector 4), with five new stations at Sector 61, Sector 70, Sector 122, Sector 123 and GNW Sector 4, at an estimated cost of Rs 1,500 crore – jointly funded by the Centre, the UP government and the Noida and Greater Noida authorities. NMRC managing director Krishna Karunesh has presented the project to the Public Investment Board (PIB), a mandatory clearance step before construction can be approved. Once cleared, construction typically takes about two years, which would put metro access around 2028-29 for the more than 5 lakh Greater Noida West residents who currently have none.

The standout framing is that, with onward connectivity towards Jewar, this would help create one of India’s first end-to-end public-transport routes from a major residential township directly to an international airport. (For clarity, this 7.5 km, five-station, Rs 1,500 crore plan is a distinct project from the larger 17.435 km Sector 51 to Knowledge Park V extension of about Rs 2,991.60 crore that received DPR approval earlier; some earlier reports cited a slightly different length for this GNW link.)

For the Noida Extension and Greater Noida West micro-market, this is probably the single clearest appreciation trigger on the horizon – reliable metro access is exactly what this dense, fast-growing belt has been missing. The balanced note is timing: PIB is a step before final approval, and construction still takes roughly two years, so the real benefit lands around 2028-29. It is a strong reason to be positive on the corridor’s direction, not a reason to expect an overnight jump.
