Pune Metro Line 3 launch delayed; full corridor now targeted for March 2027

In an update to last week’s still-pending status, Pune Metro Line 3 – the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar corridor serving the city’s largest IT hub – has still not opened to passengers. It received CMRS safety clearance on July 8, and although Pune’s other metro lines have historically opened within about 15 days of clearance, this one is now well past that window with no confirmed passenger-service date.

August 15 (Independence Day) had been floated as a possible symbolic launch, but no source confirms it happened. The clearer new information: PMRDA now targets full-corridor completion – all 23 stations, Maan to Balewadi – only by March 31, 2027, with some early stations initially operating on limited infrastructure such as single-staircase access. No official reason has been given beyond general construction-completion timelines.

For buyers along the corridor – Hinjewadi, Wakad, Baner and Balewadi – the practical takeaway is to treat the metro as a 2027 amenity rather than an imminent one. It remains a strong long-term connectivity driver, but pricing decisions today shouldn’t bank on a service that isn’t running yet. We will update this the moment passenger operations actually begin.
