Noida breaks ground on long-pending Sector 1 Golchakkar pedestrian skywalk

After more than a decade stuck in planning, the Noida Authority has selected an agency to build a pedestrian skywalk at the busy Sector 1 Golchakkar intersection, with construction set to begin within a month. The L-shaped structure – 121 metres long and 2.5 metres wide – will connect the Golchakkar to Udyog Marg, with access points feeding the Sector 15 metro station, nearby coaching centres and Sector 14.

It will include two escalators and a lift near the Sector 1 Indian Oil building, at an estimated cost of Rs 15 crore. Notably, it is being funded on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis rather than direct government spend – meaning a private operator builds and runs it, recovering costs over time, before handing it back to the Authority. Completion is targeted at about a year from the start of work.

For buyers and renters, pedestrian infrastructure around a metro station is an underrated quality-of-life signal – the kind of everyday-safety upgrade that quietly supports demand in a micro-market. That a long-stalled project is finally moving, and without straining public funds, is a small but real positive for the Sector 1-15 corridor.
