Gadkari announces Rs 60,000 crore Pune road package with five expressways and a Bhugaon flyover

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari announced a Rs 60,000 crore package of road infrastructure for Pune and the surrounding region, framed around cutting congestion and pollution and improving Mumbai-Pune-Bengaluru connectivity. Five corridors were named: Pune-Shirur, Hadapsar-Yavat, Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur, Shirur-Sambhajinagar, and a Pune-Sambhajinagar Expressway projected to cut travel time to roughly two hours.

A separate, more immediate project announced the same day: a Rs 164 crore, 2.2km Chandni Chowk-Bhugaon corridor featuring a 60-metre-wide flyover, a 70-metre bridge over the Ram River and a 430-metre underpass near the PVPIIT College junction. Land acquisition is roughly 80% complete and tenders have been invited. Bhugaon and its surroundings are projected to reach around 300,000 residents in coming years, part of the rationale for the corridor.

For property, the split matters: the five expressways are a long-term regional vision, while the Bhugaon flyover is effectively shovel-ready (80% land acquired, tender out) – the more actionable signal for anyone tracking west Pune’s Bhugaon-Chandni Chowk belt and its projected growth.
