ED asks Noida, Greater Noida & YEIDA to halt transactions on Atiq Ahmed-linked benami properties

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has compiled a list of suspect benami properties tied to associates of the late gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed and sent it to the Noida Authority, Greater Noida Authority, YEIDA and the local registration department, asking them to halt all transactions on those properties — a preemptive move to prevent liquidation before ownership disputes surface.

According to reports, builders and financiers including Sanjeev Agarwal and former MLA Asif Jafri are named in the wider ED case, which dates to 2020; April 2023 raids are reported to have uncovered undisclosed real estate worth over ₹100 crore, 200 bank accounts and 50 shell companies.

For buyers, the practical takeaway is simple: title verification is not optional. Before signing, check the encumbrance certificate, confirm a clean registry chain, and get an Authority no-dues — the checks that flag a property caught in an enforcement net before your money is at risk.
