CM Fadnavis said the state intends to merge Hinjewadi and adjoining areas – seven villages across roughly 56.72 sq km – into the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. The current fragmented governance across MIDC, PMRDA and gram panchayats is widely blamed for the corridor’s chronic traffic, water and waste-management problems, and the underlying request had been stuck since a 2015 PCMC approval.
For a corridor home to hundreds of IT firms and dozens of housing societies, clear single-body governance is exactly what has been missing – and it is often the difference between promised civic works and delivered ones.
For buyers and residents in Hinjewadi, a PCMC merger would be a genuine long-term positive for civic upkeep. It is a stated intent at this stage, so watch for the formal decision and actual handover of services before counting on the change.
