The Maharashtra Cabinet’s Infrastructure Committee, chaired by CM Devendra Fadnavis, has approved a revised cost of Rs 10,502.36 crore for the eastern extension of the Pune Ring Road – a 33.8km stretch running from Sortapwadi on the Pune-Solapur Road to Varve-Shivare on the Pune-Satara Road. The design includes four tunnels, 18 flyovers and elevated sections, three major and five minor bridges, at a 120 kmph design speed.
Land acquisition is roughly 80% complete, with completion targeted for June 2029. The full Pune Ring Road runs 168.89km and is designed to bypass the city entirely, diverting inter-state and intra-city traffic away from the core.
For south and east Pune, this is a firm “what’s coming” signal now that it carries Cabinet approval and most of the land is in hand. Localities near the eastern corridor – Wagholi, Undri and the Solapur Road belt – stand to benefit from the future connectivity, though a 2029 completion horizon makes this a patient, positioning play rather than a short-term catalyst.
